Hummigbird Festival

This major event welcomes back the Broad-tailed Hummingbird to the North Cheyenne Cañon area.  This family-oriented event provides numerous activities including bus tours, Ute tipi demonstration, children's activities and entertainment, sale of native plants and vendors selling their wares.  Participation at this event has grown to 2,000 visitors.

Serve on the planning committee that begins working on this major event in January each year.  Volunteer to work a 3-hour shift on the day of the event.  Adults and children 14 or older, accompanied by an adult.

Volunteer

The Friends of Cheyenne Cañon partner with The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department in order to protect, preserve and enhance North Cheyenne Cañon City Park.  A City Volunteer Application is required for adult and teen volunteers who work a regular schedule for the visitor centers or as crew leaders for Trail Maintenance and Clean-up events.  The City of Colorado Springs has a secure volunteer database, which allows efficient communication with our volunteers concerning programs, events, schedules and service records. The City of Colorado Springs values volunteer service in North Cheyenne Cañon which amounted to 9,029 hours during 2010 at a value of $188,254.00.  Please join our team by filling out an application and choose North Cheyenne Cañon, Starsmore Discovery Center or Helen Hunt Falls as the site where you would like to volunteer.
